The Open House features GIS display material (posters, brochures, videos, etc.) geared towards both GIS novices and advanced users with particular emphasis on the themes of health, environment and conservation, urban development and data sources. The open house serves as a showcase for GIS in the UWO community, regional organizations and municipal governments, businesses, and more. Join us to learn more about GIS and how it is a major part of the world around you.  Don't forget to fill out a ballot to win once of the door prizes, including a GARMIN E-TREX handheld GPS unit courtesy of the Department of Geography!

 Global Positioning System (GPS) Workshop
 Two Sessions from 11:00am - 12:00pm and 12:00pm - 1:00pm
 Serge A. Sauer Map Library, Social Science Centre Room 1051

Participants will learn the basics of hand-held GPS devices by undertaking a navigation and data collection exercise. All collected data will be imported into GIS software to give a sense of the necessary steps to creating a GIS database.

Special guest speakers from both academic and professional positions will explain how they are utilizing GIS in the work that they do. Find out how GIS is useful in answering spatial questions relating to geography, history, municipal administration, health, conservation and so much more.
