Geocover 1990

The 1990 Geocover set is comprised of orthorectified Landsat satellite image mosaics, that have been processed using spectral band 7 (mid-infrared) as red, band 4 (near-infrared) as green and band 3 (visible green) as blue.  The result is a Short-Wavelength Infrared combination, which looks like a a jazzed up true color rendition - one with more striking colors.  The images have been tonally balanced, tiled and compressed.  File sizes ranging from 6mb to 65mb.  An online index map has been provided by NASA.

Satellite / Sensor: Lansat 4 TM or Landsat 5 TM
  Projection: UTM WGS 84
  Scene Dates: 1990 ±3 years
  Composite Bands: SWIR (7,4,2)
  Ground pixel resolution: 28.5m
  Source format: 'SID' World

Geocover 2000

Similar to Geocover 1990, the Geocover 2000 set is comprised of orthorectified Landsat satellite image mosaics, that have been processed using spectral band 7 (mid-infrared) as red, band 4 (near-infrared) as green and band 3 (visible green) as blue.  The result is a Short-Wavelength Infrared combination, which looks like a a jazzed up true color rendition - one with more striking colors.  The images have been pan-sharpened, tonally balanced, tiled and compressed.  Because of the pan-sharpening process, file sizes are much larger than the Geocover 1990 set, averaging at 100mb per tile.  An online index map has been provided by NASA.

Satellite / Sensor: Landsat 7 TM
  Projection: UTM WGS 84
  Scene Dates: 2000 ±3 years
  Composite Bands: SWIR (7,4,2)
Ground pixel resolution: Pan-sharpened to 14.25m
  Source format: 'SID' World
